Set up buy now, pay later

Let a customer split a purchase into smaller payments — while you still get paid in full, up front. Here's how, and which brands work where.

The idea in one minute

You get your full amount today; the customer pays it off over time to the pay-later provider. It removes sticker shock and lifts sales — especially on higher-priced offers.

The catch: each checkout supports different brands.

Most important thing: on Square, Afterpay is your buy-now-pay-later — it does the same "pay in 4" customers ask for. Square does not offer Klarna or Zip; those live on Stripe.

  1. Open the Square app → ≡ MoreSettings.
  2. Tap Payments (or Checkout / Payment methods) → find Afterpay.
  3. Toggle it ON. Already on? You're set.

If you specifically want Klarna or Zip

Those aren't on Square — add Stripe as a second checkout (it supports Klarna, Zip, Afterpay, Affirm).

  1. Create a free account at stripe.com and complete verification.
  2. In Stripe, Settings → Payments → Payment methods and enable Klarna and Zip.
  3. Use a Stripe payment link so those options appear.

Honest take: Afterpay on Square already covers the "let me pay over time" need for most customers, with nothing new to manage. Only add Stripe if customers ask for Klarna or Zip by name.
